Waste Challenges Facing Commercial Business Owners

Many business owners want responsibility for recycling because of environmental concerns. Unfortunately, they are forced with the real challenge of what to do with the debris, or “junk”, produced as a result of doing business.

We can provide your home or business with great responsible debris removal services in the greater Austin area by recycling everything possible.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Discarded furnishings, clothes, and personal effects are routinely left behind, or discarded in dumpsters by current and moving renters. How to responsibly discard of these items is a real problem for property management companies.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the annual amount of furnishings taken to a landfill rose from 7.6 million tons in 2005 to 9.69 million tons in 2015. The rate continues to accelerate.

REMODELING AND CONSTRUCTION

Construction debris is a part of doing business for contractors, but what are other ways to dispose of the left-overs?

The State of Texas disposed of 5,882,016 tons of Construction and Demolition Debris (CDD) in 2017. (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)

The volume of construction waste generated worldwide every year, according to a report from Transparency Market Research, will nearly double to 2.2. billion tons by the year 2025. (Industry Analysis)

ENERGY RECOVERY

Some debris components we haul away can be used to create new energy in place of fossil fuels. Energy recovery from waste is the conversion of non-recyclable waste materials into usable heat, electricity, or fuel. One example of such a material is used tires. About 45% of post-consumer tires in the United States are used to generate electricity, steam, etc. Using scrap tires is not recycling, but is considered a beneficial use — it is better to recover the energy from a tire rather than landfill it.

In 2003, 130 million scrap tires were used as fuel (about 45% of all generated) — up from 25.9 million (10.7% of all generated) in 1991, says the EPA.

RECYCLING

A large amount of debris we collect can be recycled instead of being dumped in a landfill. Examples of recycling are the melting down of items such as aluminum and plastics to be used again in new manufactured goods. Recycling also reduces the pollution of airwater, and land resulting from waste disposal. IREP enjoys the responsibility of recycling because we hold environmental concerns as top company value.

REUSE

We give a new life to many of the discarded items we collect by donating them to local charities, shelters, non-profits, and other organizations, which are then made available to those who need them most. We also have our own resale site where we sell some gently used items.

We offer businesses a great choice when it comes to environmental sustainability and responsible debris removal in Austin, TX.
